Dereck Chisora tries to cut a deal on live TV in heated exchange with David Haye

David Haye was having none of it

Say what you will about Dereck Chisora, there’s no denying that he adds plenty of entertainment value to boxing.

Chisora returned to the ring on Saturday night and didn’t hang about as he stopped opponent Zakaria Azzouzi in the second round of their bout on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs. Lucas Browne.

A bomb of a right hand landed on Azzouzi and gave Chisora a much-needed win, having gone 2-3 in his previous five outings.

At 34 years of age, Chisora was in no doubt about what he wanted next as he insisted upon a title fight or a big-money bout.

With much discussion about a potential clash with Joe Joyce, the undefeated fighter who is signed to David Haye’s promotion, Chisora saw no need for the negotiation table as he tried to set up a deal live on Sky Sports.

‘Del Boy’ spotted both Joyce and Haye at the O2 Arena and invited them into his post-fight interview.

Chisora made an interesting proposition to ‘The Hayemaker’ but it was rejected outright, much to the enjoyment of the onlooking Eddie Hearn.

Chisora said: “In front of the British public on live television right, I’ll make a deal with you right now. If Joe beats me, you write me a cheque for £1. If I beat him, you give me your purse against Tony [Bellew] and your TV rights.”

Security tried to stand between the heavyweights, who shared the ring all the way back in 2012, but Haye assured them that there was no danger of the debate crossing over into physicality.

“No!” Haye succinctly answered.

“The fight’s not happening then so don’t ever say my name ever again or else it’s on,” Chisora responded.

Haye continued: “What needed to happen was Dereck to agree to what he already agreed to. We offered him the same money that he got for [Kubrat] Pulev and more money than he got for the European title fight, you said no. OK, we understand.”
