Delighted Evertonians react to news of Oumar Niasse’s new squad number

Forget all the new signings, all the talk was about Oumar...

It’s been quite a summer for Everton Football Club so far.

Ahead of their second season with Ronald Koeman as their manager, they’ve been one of the busier Premier League teams when it comes to transfer activity.

As well as last week’s signing of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, the Goodison Park club have also secured the services of Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez as they prepare for 2017/18.

With so many new signings (and a few departures) already confirmed, the club’s new list of squad numbers was always going to see a few changes when it was eventually announced.

Earlier in the week, Everton’s new squad numbers were released. We already knew that Rooney would wear the number ten shirt on his return to the club, and the news that Pickford would wear the number one and Keane would take the four shirt hardly came as a surprise.

In actual fact, it was the sight of Oumar Niasse – a player that spent most of last season on loan at Hull City – on the list that got most Everton supporters talking…

The Senegalese forward, who had originally worn 14 for the club, has been handed the 34 shirt despite the fact he’s expected to leave the club in the weeks ahead.
