According to Sky Sports, Sturridge travelled to London with the rest of the team but it was decided that he should not be risked in the early afternoon kick off.
The news comes in the same week that Joe Gomez and Danny Ings were ruled out with long-term knee injuries.
Although it doesn't appear to be as serious as the injuries picked up by his team mates, knee injuries are typically very complicated to treat.
