Dana White nips talk of Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone in the bud

And White is famously honest...

It’s a fight that makes a lot of sense right now but don’t hold your breath on Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone coming to fruition

Cerrone intends to return to lightweight after a 10-fight spell at 170lbs and he is fully deserving of a big-money fight before he hangs up his gloves.

‘Cowboy’ knows where the money is and made it his business to target McGregor in the wake of his recent victory over Mike Perry in Denver.

Cerrone hinted at an exciting opponent that had already been offered to him and then claimed that he was “just waiting on him” to accept the fight alongside a picture of ‘The Notorious’.

It was a game attempt from the veteran to set himself up for a red panty night but by the sounds of things, Cerrone will have to wait a little while longer.

UFC President Dana White, whose claims are always to be taken with a grain of salt, has shot down suggestions that the promotion was working on a match-up between Cerrone and McGregor.

“That’s not true,” White told TMZ Sports. “Absolutely not true. Obviously that’s the fight that ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone wants but that’s not true.

“We haven’t even thought about an opponent for either one of those guys yet, meaning Khabib or Conor.”

Both McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov are waiting to discover their punishments for their roles in the melee which followed the main event of UFC 229.

Suspensions and fines are expected for both, which means Cerrone will have to look elsewhere if he hopes to keep busy.
