Dana White’s comments on Conor McGregor vs Robbie Lawler have us far too excited

What once seemed fanciful is now looking very much possible.

Conor McGregor is eating two breakfasts a day, purring for fights and looking better than ever. The Notorious looks so good, in fact, that it's possible he will never drop back down those 25lbs to defend his featherweight crown. Following the withdrawal of Rafael Dos Anjos from the UFC 196 headline event, McGregor has skipped the lightweight division entirely and will fight Nate Diaz at 170lbs on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Speaking ahead of the Diaz fight, McGregor openly mused about challenging welterweight champion Robbie Lawler for his strap. This exchange between UFC president Dana White and John Morgan of MMA Junkie at Thursday's UFC 196 press conference has set an enthralling scene for a potential McGregor vs. Lawler bout.

Morgan: "Would you be open to him fighting for the title at 170lbs or is that too much for even Conor McGregor?" White: "I’m open to whatever he’s considering doing. "If he wants to fight at 170 and he wants to fight Robbie Lawler, Conor is tough to deny these days. "Nobody has ever done this, 145 pounds going to 170. And it’s one of those things where you talk about these guys when the money’s in the bank, other things are going on and they have all this opportunity, Conor really does step up and fight anybody anywhere anytime. "It’s impressive, it’s fun and this is what makes you love the fight business."

Given that both men are PPV favourites, we're willing to speculate that such a bout would most likely take place at UFC 200 in July.
