Cristiano Ronaldo sets another footballing first with goal against Sevilla

Messi's yet to do *this*...

As far as weeks go, this one has been a pretty decent one for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having scored for Real Madrid in their final Champions League group game with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, he was picking up another Ballon d’Or in Paris less than 24 hours later – enough to draw him level with Lionel Messi, who also has five of the awards.

Back in La Liga action on Saturday afternoon, the 32-year-old helped Real demolish Sevilla 5-0 at the Bernabeu. All goals came in the first half, with Ronaldo scoring two of them.

The first of those goals was enough for Ronaldo to reach another significant milestone. It was his 50th of 2017 and, incredibly, this is now the seventh straight calendar year in which he’s reached this figure, as pointed out by The Mirror. Needless to say, no other footballer has achieved this.

Although Ronaldo still has more football to play before the year is out, it’s highly unlikely he’ll surpass the 69 goals he scored in 2013. Still, 51 in 57 games isn’t too bad, we suppose…

He and his Real teammates will now turn their attention to retaining the Club World Cup title they won last year. They will contest a semi-final next week in the United Arab Emirates against the winners of Al-Jazira Club and Urawa Red Diamonds.
