Ronaldo made history, but he will remember the game for a whole different reason

Cristiano Ronaldo made history on Thursday, but one moment on the field left him looking absolutely gutted – when Ghana’s Osman Bukari copied his ‘SIUU’ celebration after scoring.

Ronaldo, who made a shock exit from Manchester United this week, became the first player to score in five different World Cups after finding the net through a penalty in the 65th minute of Portugal’s World Cup opener on Thursday night in Qatar.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored in the previous four tournaments and now has eight World Cup goals to his name.

The 37-year-old went down under the challenge of a defender and stepped up with an emphatic spot-kick. He then celebrated in classic Cristiano-style, in a move that had the crowd joining in.

Later in the match, while Ronaldo was sat on the bench substituted, he watched on as Ghana’s Osman Bukari reduced the deficit.

But, instead of grabbing the ball and rushing back to the halfway line, Bukari decided to do a ‘SIUU’ of his own.

The cameras panned to Ronaldo who looked visibly annoyed despite Portugal leading 3-2.

It was Ronaldo’s first game since having his contract terminated by Manchester United following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

After leading out his team onto the pitch, the star appeared overcome with emotion as he belted out the national anthem.

Despite scoring in five WC’s, Ronald is yet to score in a knockout stage fixture, with all of his strikes coming in the group stage.

First first World Cup goal was against Iran in 2006.
