Like father, like son

Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has followed in his footsteps and has left Manchester United after 18 months at the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr joined the Red Devils in 2021 – the same time his father his retuned to the club – and has previously had spells at Juventus and Real Madrid’s academies.

However after Ronaldo parted ways with the club by mutual consent in November, his son has decided to find a new club and has returned to familiar territory.

The 12-year-old has rejoined Madrid, as per journalist Edu Cornago on Tuesday. His last spell at Los Blancos was a successful one, scoring more than 50 goals in 20 matches across various different age groups.

He also has aspirations of playing with his dad one day. During one interview, Ronaldo Snr said: “My son tells me, ‘Dad hold on a few more years – I want to play with you.’

“Only time will tell. I will never pressure him [to play football]. He will do what he wants.

“Also what I want the most for Cristianito and everyone else is that they’re happy and that they choose what they want.

I will support in any way.”

His return comes after his father was spotted training with Madrid shortly after Portugal’s exit from the World Cup in a bid to maintain fitness ahead of his next move.

If current speculation is led to be believed, the 37-year-old looks set to put pen to paper on a bumper seven-year contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.

The Middle East side have reportedly offered the forward a contract worth £173m a year in which he will be a player for the first two and a half years before transferring into an ambassadorial role.

Saudi Arabia want to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Greece and Egypt and will use Ronaldo as the poster boy to win the rights to host the tournament.
