Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a Manchester United return countless times since it emerged that he may be ready to leave Real Madrid.

And while the player himself has been coy on transfer rumours, his latest comments will give United fans a real nostalgia kick.

Speaking at a press conference for Ronaldo, the documentary film following him for 14 months between 2014 and 2015, he admitted he still has “a great passion” for his former club.

And he revealed the importance of negotiations between agent Jorge Mendes and then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson which guaranteed that he would play in at least half of United’s matches in his first season at Old Trafford.

“When Alex Ferguson said you’re going to come to Manchester United and you’re going to play 50% of the games, it made me feel comfortable,” Ronaldo said.

“I took that decision because Jorge got me to take that decision, and of course the last word of Sir Alex Ferguson was the key to sign for Manchester United.

“It was great because Jorge gave me his word, Sir Alex Ferguson gave me his word, and I respect the people who tell me something and it happens.”

Ronaldo is out in UK cinemas on November 9. Read our review here.
