"He's qualified [as a boxer]," Foster continued.

"I'd love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent, certainly a high-level opponent. We're happy to licence him. We're happy he's a California fighter."

The development is bound to fuel a fresh round of speculation regarding a potential super-fight with retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. McGregor has yet to comment on the news, but his manager confirmed a licence has been granted. "All I can comment on is that we have been granted a boxing licence by the State of California," Audie Attar said.
