Joleon Lescott mocked by Man Utd fans for mixing his dates over RvP goal

Lescott got his dates muddled and United fans were quick to pounce

The last few weeks must have been tough for Manchester United fans. After their side briefly topped the Premier League table at the turn of the year, they’ve seen their title hopes dashed by Manchester City’s near relentless form.

Despite claiming a derby day victory at the Etihad last month, United have watched their rivals build up a seemingly unassailable lead at the top of the Premier League, with hopes of winning an unprecedented quadruple still very much alive.

Pep Guardiola’s side were not able to extend their lead at the top of the table on Saturday afternoon, however.

Leeds United, despite playing for over half of the match with ten men following Liam Cooper’s dismissal, snatched all three points thanks to a late winner from Stuart Dallas, enough to claim a 2-1 victory.

It was the first time that a visiting team had scored a stoppage time winner in the Premier League at the Etihad since 2012. After the game, this was pointed out by Jake Humphrey on BT Sport, as he discussed the game with pundits Joleon Lescott and Rio Ferdinand.

On that occasion, United, with Ferdinand in their team, sealed a 3-2 win over their neighbours thanks to Robin van Persie’s last-gasp free-kick.

Lescott, an unused substitute on the day for City, was keen to remind Ferdinand and Humphrey that, despite that result, the year  didn’t end well for United.

“How did that year finish?” he asks,  apparently forgetting that United actually won the title that particular season.

Lescott appeared to be referring to the previous season, when Sergio Aguero won the title for City with virtually the last kick of the season. Plenty of United fans, however, were quick to pick up on his error.
