Mbappé told PSG officials via letter that he doesn’t want to extend his contract

Chelsea are reportedly planning on joining the race to sign Kylian Mbappé this summer.

Clubs have been put on red alert after reports on Monday said that the Frenchman had written to Paris Saint-Germain to confirm that he has no plans to sign a new deal.

Mbappé’s contract expires in 2024 however PSG are adamant that the forward can’t leave the club for free and either want him to reverse his decision and sign a new deal or sell him.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old and came close to signing him last year before Mbappé signed a bumper extension with PSG at the eleventh hour.

Madrid are also looking for a striker to replace Karim Benzema, who left Los Blancos in favour of a move to Al Ittihad.

The Times have claimed that Chelsea are also said to be keen on a move for Mbappé, with co-owner Todd Boehly said to be the driving force in trying to attempt the 2018 World Cup winner to come to Stamford Bridge.

A lack of European football for Chelsea may prove to be a setback for Boehly’s hopes, with Mbappé more than likely wanting to go somewhere where he can finally win the Champions League.

It would also mean a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to make wholesale changes again in west London after the Blues’ lowly 12th placed finish last season.

Manchester United are also allegedly interested, but any plans to make an offer would be on hold until a full takeover of the club is completed.
