Chelsea player spotted holding hot water bottle against his face during West Ham loss

Bench warmer

West Ham United recorded an unexpected victory over Chelsea in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

Few gave David Moyes’ team much of a chance against the in-form Premier League champions, but Marko Arnautovic’s goal earned the Hammers a massive win over their London rivals.

Chelsea were unable to break down the 10 players West Ham put behind the ball for most of the game, and created few chances of note.

Antonio Conte’s side remain in third place, and West Ham are still in the relegation zone, but this could prove to be a huge result for both clubs.

But, never mind all that, the main talking point from the match undoubtedly came in the first-half, when Michy Batshuayi was spotted sitting on the Chelsea bench with a hot water bottle held against his face.

The Belgian striker, who rarely plays for Conte’s team, probably knew he wouldn’t get a run out against West Ham, so he came prepared for a chilly afternoon on the bench at the London Stadium.

This brings new meaning to the term “bench warmer” and the reaction wasn’t kind.
