The Metropolitan Police are also investigating the incident

Chelsea Football Club and the Metropolitan Police are both investigating an incident in which alleged racial abuse was shouted at Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling during their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Several Twitter users, including former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, highlighted the footage of the alleged verbal attack that took place in the first half.

A Chelsea spokesman said: “We’re aware of reports and video footage. We will investigate the matter and take the strongest possible action where necessary.”

The Met Police said: “We are aware of a video circulating online in which it is claimed racial abuse was allegedly directed at a player at a Chelsea v Manchester City game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, December 8.

No arrests have yet been made, but the Met reiterated that they would review the footage to determine whether any offences have been committed against Sterling.
