He has a way with words

Who knew Didier Drogba had such an incredible way with words?

Tributes have been pouring in from former teammates, rivals and pundits ever since John Terry confirmed that his time as a Chelsea player will come to an end this summer.

At 36, Terry’s playing time at Stamford Bridge has been limited to a handful of cameo appearances this season and the defender insists he is “eager to carry on playing and so will be looking to continue with a new challenge,” once this campaign finishes.

Several Premier League clubs are said to be in the running for Terry’s signature but while the centre-half decides on his future, with his legacy already cemented, his contribution to the game as one of England’s greatest ever defenders is being praised by all corners of the footballing community.

But you simply won’t come across a more beautiful tribute than that paid by Terry’s former Blues teammate Didier Drogba.

Drogba and Terry won four Premier Leagues, the Champions League, three FA Cups and three League Cups together and the Ivorian’s stunning description of his experience with Terry as a captain will have Chelsea fans reaching for the tissues.

“From day one you’ve been a true leader,” Drogba wrote. “When I first met you and didn’t know who you were but said to me “‘welcome to Chelsea’.

“Thought you were a young player from the academy going on pre-season tour. Then I realised who you were from your first speech right before our first friendly game vs Celtic. You’ve been carrying this team, this club, for 22 years with the same passion, the same desire to win for Chelsea and our fans.

“Proud to have been led by the all-time best defender in the Premier League and one of the very best in the world!!!!

“Thanks for the memories CAPTAIN LEGEND TERRY and all the very best for your next challenge.”
