Chelsea fans are getting super-excited after Didier Drogba turns down a potential new club

On the day one Chelsea legend retired from football, another could be on his way back to Stamford Bridge.

At least that’s the opinion of more than a few Blues fans, who seem convinced that Didier Drogba is ready to return to West London.

The Ivorian striker, who had two spells as a player with the club and won the Premier League, both domestic cups and the Champions League during his first stint before adding two further trophies in his one-season return.

Drogba has been without a club since leaving Montreal Impact after their MLS Playoff defeat to Toronto FC at the end of 2016.

He had been linked with a move to Corinthians, with the Brazilian club offering the veteran a contract, but he has rejected the chance to join up with Fábio Carille’s squad on the grounds that he does not feel it is the right move for him at this time.

Now 38 years old, Drogba was spotted back at Stamford Bridge alongside Guus Hiddink last season, and many fans believe his next move will be to join the club’s coaching staff on a permanent basis.

The man who scored the winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League final still holds Chelsea dear to his heart, and has spent the day paying tribute to his former teammate Lampard after the ex-England man chose to hang up his boots.

And the reaction of Blues supporters seems to suggest another comeback is a foregone conclusion, accelerated by various media reports that he would prefer a Chelsea coaching role than a playing role elsewhere.

He would certainly be welcomed back with open arms if that is what he decides to do, and he is not the only one.
