The Brits are at it again

Chelsea and Manchester City fans were seen scrapping in a town square in Porto, Portugal, on the eve of this season’s Champions League final.

12,000 Brits have flown out for the game, which UEFA had originally intended to host in Istanbul, but for a second year in a row had to move it from Turkey to Portugal for Covid safety reasons.

This 12,000 exodus is the largest mass departure from the UK since the start of the pandemic in early 2020.

And true to form, some of them have been misbehaving.

Footage captured by Ruptly shows scuffles break out in a town square full of fans drinking, erupting into a full on fist fight between two fans.

Portuguese police had to step in to disperse the crowd.

More footage captured by the Independent’s Miguel Delaney showed the fights continuing into the night, away from the town square.

As Delaney wrote on Twitter, get a life, lads.

This was the second night in a row that fights had broken out between rival fanbases. There have been no reports of any arrests.

Chelsea will take on Manchester City in a half-full Estádio do Dragão, the home of Porto FC this evening. It will be broadcast on BT Sport on television and for free on their YouTube channel.

It will also be Gary Lineker’s last Champions League game for BT Sport, as he announced on Twitter on Friday night.
