Celtic’s US spinoff could come much sooner than we thought

Oh Bhoy!

The commissioner of the North American Soccer League (NASL) has revealed plans to announce a brand new team for the competition by mid-November.

A proposed spinoff of Scottish giants Celtic is among the potential additions, as the American second tier continues its expansion.

Manchester City’s partner franchise New York City FC already ply their trade in MLS, and the Bhoys could take the opportunity to get in early as investment flows into NASL.

Two teams have already been confirmed for next year, with Miami and Puerto Rico outfits (the former part-owned by Paolo Maldini) bringing the total to 14.

But commissioner Bill Peterson told ESPN he could bring it up to an even number, adding that the new addition was “very linked” to a European club – no wonder people have been joining the dots.

So, Celtic fans, would you be happy to see your club branch out to pastures new?
