Celtic fans hoping for a club legend to replace Ronny Deila will be much happier now

Parkhead-bound?

“I think he’ll do well at Blackburn”

The words of a certain SportsJOE member of staff approximately 30 seconds before this tweet was sent by the 1995 Premiership champions on Thursday.

The former Aston Villa manager only joined the club in November but is understood to have activated a release clause in his contract that will see him exit Ewood Park next month.

Rovers are currently 18th in the Championship, and Lambert has won just 10 of his 31 games in charge which, for a club in massive debt, isn’t too bad but it’s not exactly stellar either.

He would have been expected to revamp the squad in the summer, but Thursday’s news now means he is the one of the odds-on favourites for the Celtic job.

Aston Villa v Newcastle United - Premier League

The former European Cup winner with Borussia Dortmund spent eight seasons at Parkhead from 1997 to 2005, and has managed six clubs since he hung up his boots in 2006.

Ronny Deila is coming to the end of his time at Celtic Park, and Ladbrokes have today installed Lambert at 4/1 to take over the role.

David Moyes still leads the betting at 9/4 and Malky Mackay, like Lambert, is also at 4s but recent news is likely to see a flood of money on the former Norwich manager to make Celtic his next role.

Lambert famously had Roy Keane as his assistant at Aston Villa and the Corkman seemed to have no interest in taking over at Parkhead when asked earlier this month.

However with Lambert now in the running for the post, could the Irishman and the Scot be a dream-team for the Bhoys faithful?
