Fernandes has had his say on the incident
Bruno Fernandes has responded to claims that he ignored Manchester United teammate Andre Onana on Wednesday night.
Fans criticised Fernandes and accused him of ignoring the goalkeeper before a corner was taken during United’s 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid.
It was always going to be unlikely that the Portugal international had ignored Onana and to clear the air, the Red Devils captain responded on social media.
Commenting underneath a post that made the claim, he said: “Nice how you could see me ignoring him when I was going to the place we was telling me to be positioned in the corner.
“Nice try to make it look bad.”
Fernandes was recently made the permanent captain by Erik ten Hag after the decision to strip Harry Maguire of the armband amid uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.
“Obviously, it’s a great honour,” Fernandes said when asked about being made captain.
“It’s something that has to make you proud, has to make you understand that you are in a place where everyone would like to be: playing for Man United. Having the chance to have the armband and having that responsibility is such a big honour.”
Onana was United’s second signing of the summer following Mason Mount’s arrival earlier in the month and Rasmus Hojlund appears to be the next to join after Ten Hag’s side reportedly agreed a deal with Atalanta.
