Brewers break 44-year wait for World Series return

The Milwaukee Brewers have reached the World Series for the first time since 1982 after sweeping the two-time defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in four straight games.

Despite falling four runs behind in Thursday's deciding match, Milwaukee fought back to claim a 6-4 victory at Dodger Stadium and book their place in the final, The Guardian reported.

Jake Bauers helped change the course of the game with a double that brought two runners home.

He then forced in another run with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, levelling the score and setting the stage for Garrett Mitchell to put Milwaukee in front with a home run.

From that point on, the Brewers' pitching unit refused to let the Dodgers back into the contest. William Contreras helped direct a bullpen effort that kept Los Angeles off the scoreboard for the final seven innings.

JoJo Romero contributed two scoreless innings, while Aaron Ashby took care of the closing stages to earn his second save of the postseason.

Yelich reveals how Brewers stayed confident against Dodgers

Christian Yelich said the squad had remained convinced they could win, even when the odds appeared to be against them.

The veteran described how the players encouraged one another to stay composed, work their way back into the game and turn a difficult start into a victory.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, were left to accept an unexpectedly abrupt end to their title defence.

Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged that his team had been outplayed in every department and praised Milwaukee for delivering such a complete performance.

The Brewers' success also marks a response to last season's disappointment, when they were swept out of the National League Championship Series.

Ashby said that experience had given the team extra motivation, with the players determined to make the most of their return to the postseason.

Milwaukee's final hurdle will be decided by the American League Championship Series, where the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians are competing for a place in the World Series.
