Celtic’s European hopes took a big hit last night as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to a German team Borussia Mönchengladbach.
After picking up a good point against Manchester City last time out, Brendan Rodgers’ team would have fancied their chances against the Bundesliga side, but some suspect defending allowed the visitors to escape with all three points.
Kolo Touré was singled out for blame by many Bhoys fans, and the Ivorian defender took a bit of a kicking on social media.

However, Rodgers has come to his defender’s…ahem…defence.

“He is an honest player and tonight will hurt him,” Rodgers said of Touré, who played for his Liverpool team in the 2014/15 Champions League.
“He is experienced enough to know to deal with the first one and the second one was unfortunate, the guy has walked away and finished it brilliantly with a toe-poke finish,” the manager is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Celtic, who are four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a game in hand, have just one point from their first three Champions League outings.
They travel to Gladbach for the reverse fixture in two weeks’ time, before closing out their group stage campaign at home to Barcelona and away to Manchester City.
The Scottish champions have not reached the knockout stages of the Champions League since the 2012/13 season, when they finished second in a group containing Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.
