On Wednesday, hours before Liverpool scrambled past lowly Carlisle on penalties, the club were forced to deny that owners FSG had made an approach to Carlo Ancelotti about replacing Rodgers, but unfortunately for the Northern Irishman those rumours just aren't going away.
The Daily Mail's Neil Ashton claims that FSG have made contact with Ancelotti and have started to seriously look at alternatives to the luckless current incumbent.
Ashton writes: "FSG began considering their managerial options again following the 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham on August 29 and a 3-1 loss at Manchester United the following week."
