Brendan Rodgers’ days seem numbered as Liverpool ARE interested in Ancelotti

It's been a tough few weeks for Brendan Rodgers.

It was a season that started promisingly for Liverpool with victories over Stoke City and Bournemouth, slightly fortuitous victories it must be said, followed by an impressive display in a goalless draw at the Emirates. Fans were optimistic that Rodgers' new-look side were starting to gel and could mount a serious challenge for a top four place. But then the carpet was ripped from under Rodgers in spectacular fashion as West Ham thrashed Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield, Manchester United strolled to a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford, and Norwich came to Anfield and shared the points. On Wednesday, hours before Liverpool scrambled past lowly Carlisle on penalties, the club were forced to deny that owners FSG had made an approach to Carlo Ancelotti about replacing Rodgers, but unfortunately for the Northern Irishman those rumours just aren't going away. The Daily Mail's Neil Ashton claims that FSG have made contact with Ancelotti and have started to seriously look at alternatives to the luckless current incumbent. Ashton writes: "FSG began considering their managerial options again following the 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham on August 29 and a 3-1 loss at Manchester United the following week." Of course, rumours of FSG speaking to other managers are nothing new – the Boston-based group are said to have spoken to Andre Villas-Boas and Ronald Koeman at various points last season – but with fan frustration growing, Rodgers will need some good results soon if he's to banish these rumours.
