Brazilian World Cup winning captain Carlos Alberto has died at the age of 72

Carlos Alberto, captain of the Brazil team that won the World Cup in 1970 and scorer of one of the greatest goals of all time, has died aged 72. Alberto died in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. Alberto represented Fluminese, Santos, Flamengo, the New York Cosmos and California Surf at club level and played for Brazil 58 times before retiring from international football in 1977. Widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders ever to play the game, Alberto only played in one World Cup, in Mexico in 1970.
