Borussia Monchengladbach have provided fans with a ready made excuse for missing work

Can they get them out of PE as well?

Rob Burnett

Borussia Monchengladbach are already up there at the top of the running for our annual Fan-Friendly Club of the Year award (which we definitely didn’t just invent).

On Tuesday the German club’s Champions League tie at Manchester City was postponed because of some truly Mancunian rain.

The thousands of travelling fans were crestfallen, to say the least, but to ease the pain somewhat, the club announced that they would refund the cost of the match tickets to every fan – even if they used them for the rearranged game at the Etihad tonight.

Class indeed.

But the club went one further on match day when they drafted a letter for each fan who stayed on to watch the game to send to their boss explaining their absence from work.

“… in Manchester to fulfil the important duty to support Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League…”

And here it is in the original German, which will make far more sense for all the German people who will be reading it.

Not exactly sure why the German original gets a snazzy faux-handwriting-esque font while the English translation is in boring old ariel, but we won’t quibble.

Nice work, Monchengladbach, though we’re not entirely sure our boss would be convinced by the note from the “Sportdirektor” Max Eberl.
