Ah, Super Bowl – the one night in the year where the vast majority of your Facebook friends suddenly become NFL experts.
Even if you didn’t bother staying up to watch it, you probably know by now that Super Bowl LI was won by New England Patriots, triumphing 34-28 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Trailing by 25 points at one stage in the third quarter, the Patriots mounted a stunning comeback to level the game at 28-28, going on to win the game in overtime.
Such a dramatic turn around had never been witnessed in Super Bowl history, so it’s no surprise that some of those working on Monday morning’s newspapers were caught a little cold by the final result.
An example of this is highlighted in the following tweet, which shows an early edition of the Boston Globe, delivered to an address in Florida.
‘The Bitter End’ the headline reads, accompanied by a picture of what appears to be a dejected Patriot quarterback, Tom Brady.

By the time this newspaper was delivered, Brady had become the first quarterback to receive five Super Bowl rings.
As the tweet points out, here lies the problem with early editions newspapers. As digital media takes over from print press, this sort of thing will become more and more rare.
