He even checks, TWICE
Wigan trounced Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 5-2 victory, lifting them to 19th in the table, 10 points ahead of Bolton.
After taking the lead in the fourth minute, it took Wigan until the second half before they got their second. But after they'd established a two goal cushion, the floodgates opened.
The third of their five goals was pick of the bunch, but not for any brilliant skill on Wigan's part. This was a goal completely of Bolton's making.
As Bolton's goalkeeper Remi Matthews recovered the ball from a Wigan attack, all 20 outfield players - all but one - retreated into their positions. But Wigan winger Michael Jacobs had other plans. He lurked behind Matthews, waiting for him to roll the ball out in front of him.
Matthews was seemingly aware of this possibility, so looked round to check if any Wigan players had that trick up their sleeve. In fact, he looks twice, just to double check, and somehow fails to see Jacobs in plain view.
And then he does it, he rolls the ball out, only for Jacobs to appear, steal the ball, and put it on a silver platter for Nick Powell, who slots it into an open net.
It just goes to show, we are all human and all capable of spectacular brain farts. It didn't have much bearing on the game, but it was certainly the best moment of it.
