American TV channel thinks Bob Bradley is the new Chelsea manager

So close.

Tom Victor

There was a time when soccer barely registered among American newscasters, so perhaps we can call this progress.

Former US men’s national team boss Bob Bradley has been handed his first job in English football, taking over from Francesco Guidolin at Swansea City.

Not that you’d know it from this report, in which he has supposedly taken over at Chelsea – by the looks of it, without anyone informing Roman Abramovich, Antonio Conte, or indeed Bradley himself.

It feels a bit like the work of a vindictive teleprompter writer. Yeah, that’s probably a thing – why wouldn’t it be? We’ve seen enough revenge comedies to know what goes on in newsrooms across America.

Even the presenter seems to do a double-take as if to say “Chelsea? Aren’t they doing well? Why would they need him?”.

We can only assume the channel in question had a template left over from the time Matt Miazga (remember him?!) joined the Blues in January, and had assumed Bradley would just follow his compatriot.

If that’s the case, we can’t be too harsh on them – after all, even the Sunday Times makes those kinds of mistake from time to time (yup, hate to break it to you but the Archbishop of York isn’t in charge of Arsenal – yet).
