Professional footballers – especially dead good ones – earn lots and lots of money.
They spend it on nice things, including very expensive cars.
With this in mind, it’s probably no great surprise to learn that there was some lovely, lovely vehicles on show as the Portugal squad turned up for their pre-World Cup camp in Lisbon.
There was Manuel Fernandes in his Ferrari 458; Cédric Soares in his Porsche Panamera; Ricardo Quarresma in a Merc… You get the gist.
Then, bless him, along came Bernardo Silva…
Silva is indeed a dead good footballer and, having signed for Manchester City from Monaco last summer, we can also assume that he’s a handsomely paid dead good footballer. Yet, as the tweet below points out, the car he chose to rock up in bucked the trend somewhat…

Yep, the Premier League-winner arrived in a considerably less flashy, considerably more reasonably priced Smart FourTwo – a car which can be bought new for under ten grand on these shores. Good man.
Silva and his Portuguese teammates, the current European champions, have been drawn in Group B in Russia this summer. They kick off their tournament by facing their Iberian neighbours Spain in Sochi on June 15. They face Morocco in Moscow four days later before their final group fixture against Iran in Saransk on June 25.
The rest of the Portuguese squad are expected to join up with their teammates in the days and weeks ahead. Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the small matter of a Champions League final in Kiev this Saturday night, is one of those who will be arriving late.
