The victory over Olympiacos in Greece was the only one of their last five Champions League away fixtures to result in a win for Pep Guardiola's side.
Last season saw the German giants go out of the competition at the semi-final stage after a 3-0 first-leg defeat in Barcelona, but they were also humbled 3-1 by Porto in the previous round before responding with a 6-1 demolition at the Allianz Arena.
They saw off Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 on aggregate in the last 16, but all seven goals came in Germany.
