Watch as Barnet defender nets first ever senior goal with a worldie from the halfway line

Absolute screamer

Simon Lloyd

A goal fit to win any game.

A shame then, that the player that scored it ended up on the wrong end of the result.

Nevertheless, we can all sit back and admire what defender Joe Payne did for Barnet on Monday night. Facing Enfield Town in their Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup tie, Payne received the ball on half-way after opposition goalkeeper Nathan McDonald strayed to the edge of his area to clear a ball down his side’s right wing.

Allowing himself one touch to control to ball and another to nudge it from under his feet, he then launches a left-footed strike from just inside the Enfield half. The goalkeeper, who’s still making his way back to his goal, can only watch as the ball drifts over his head and into the net, clipping the inside of the post satisfyingly on the way.

Oh, and it also happened to be his first ever senior goal. We can safely say that he probably won’t better it.

Have a look at this…

As we mentioned earlier, Payne’s Beckham-esque strike wasn’t enough for Barnet to win the match, with Enfield eventually claiming a 6-5 win via a penalty shoot-out.
