Barcelona ridiculed as they announce new signing with ‘worst video ever’

The Barca ball hasn't gone down too well

Let’s ignore all the World Cup stuff for a bit, shall we?

With only one the final to be played in Russia (we don’t care about the third-place play-off and, let’s face it, neither do you), it’s high time we started paying more attention to the transfer market. After all, Thursday has seen the mighty Barcelona tie up a pretty significant bit of business.

After moving to Sevilla a year ago, the impressive performances of Clement Lenglet have seen Barca shell out £32m to bring him to the Camp Nou – also adding a whopping great £265m buyout clause in the French defender’s contract.

This is clearly a very special day for Lenglet. After all, moves to Barca don’t come around every day. A shame then, that his transfer has been marred by one of the worst ‘welcome’ videos ever to be made in world football…

The video begins with an onscreen message promising ‘A new player is coming,’ before viewers are introduced to a talking football. The ‘Barca Ball’ spends the first few seconds banging on about how great Lionel Messi is and how he looks forward to one day ending up in the Argentine’s personal museum.

Confessing that he’s missed Barca’s players over the summer, he then gets to the point.

“By the way, did you know who’ll be sitting here next to me soon?” he asks. “Lenglet,” he adds. “A great baller.”

“Enjoy Lenglet,” he then orders, like Lenglet is actually an ice cream or refreshing drink.

None of this does it justice though. Here, just watch the thing.

A glimpse at the comments reveal the video hasn’t gone down too well. Many were confused by the need for a talking ball… or the fact more time is spent discussing Messi instead of ordering fans to enjoy Lenglet.
