Barcelona keeping tabs on MLS star Giovinco

Tom Victor

We’ve seen Barcelona linked with a number of unexpected names as the end of their ban on registering new players draws ever closer.

It was one thing seeing Jamie Vardy linked with a move to Camp Nou after tearing the Premier League apart, but the latest name is just as surprising.

The reigning Spanish champions have inquired about Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco, according to the player’s agent.

Andrea D’Amico made the revelation about the 28-year-old to Italian TV channel Rai Sport, according to reports in Spain.

Giovinco was one of the undisputed stars of Major League Soccer in his first season at Toronto, scoring 22 goals and notching 16 assists as the Canadian club made the playoffs for the first time ever.

With rumours of Lionel Messi leaving the club, could Barça be after another diminutive frontman to carry them forward?
