Not a bad replacement for Paulinho

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal will join Barcelona on a three-year-deal, the Spanish club have confirmed.

Pending a medical, the Chilean will move for a reported fee of £26.7m.

The 31-year-old, known for his all-action displays as a central midfielder, as well as the tattoos and mohawk to match, joined the Bavarian club in 2015 and won the league in each of his three seasons spent there.

His remarkable record of domestic success continues even further back, having moved to Juventus from Bayer Leverkusen in 2011 and becoming an integral part of a Bianconeri side that swept to the Serie A title four years in a row.

The box-to-box midfielder, also capable of playing as a holding anchor, will add depth to a Barcelona midfielder that has lost Andres Iniesta to retirement and Paulinho to the wages, sorry, glamour of the Chinese Super League.

Inter Milan were close to signing the player but appeared to have had their heads turned by the apparent availability of Luka Modric, which has since allowed the Catalan giants to swoop in and secure a deal.

Vidal originally retired from international football last year after Chile failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but has since reversed his decision.

He has 100 caps and 24 goals for the national side and will surely be hoping to add a Champions League medal to his vast array of silverware, currently the only thing currently missing for him at club level.
