The plot thickens

Bacary Sagna has weighed in on the feud between Pep Guardiola and Yaya Touré after Touré accused Pep Guardiola of ‘having a problem with African players’.

Touré asserted that Guardiola’s treatment of him during their time together at Barcelona and Manchester City was unfair, saying:

“It got to the point I asked myself if it was because of my colour.

“I’m not the first, other Barca players asked the question too. Maybe us Africans aren’t always treated the same by certain people.

“When you see the problems he [Pep] has often had with African players, everywhere he has been, I ask myself questions.”

Pep Guardiola dismissed the accusations, saying they were “lies” while doing an interview with a Catalan TV channel.

Former Manchester City player Bacary Sagna, who spent one year with Guardiola before being moved on, has come to Pep Guardiola’s defence.

The Frenchman, who is of Senegalese descent, has said that he never had any problems with Guardiola.

“Whenever I was good I played, whenever I wasn’t playing well I stayed on the bench. Personally, I never felt different from any other player. Pep respected me and my family.”

Sagna now plays for Benevento Calcio, while Yaya Touré is without a club, having bid farewell to City at the end of the 2017/18 season.
