Ashley Young couldn’t resist winding up Nottingham Forest fans a day after Everton beat them 2-0.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil secured a vital three points for the Toffees as they moved five points clear of the relegation zone.

Forest however were fuming and felt that they should’ve been awarded three penalties during the game and after the game, released an extremely strong statement.

They said: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

The Independent have reported that the FA will investigate the tweet as it “calls into question the integrity of the game”.

Young, who was one of the players involved in the penalty controversy after VAR adjudged him not to have handled the ball in the box continued the wind up on social media by posting a picture of him listening to Justin Timberlake song ‘Cry Me a River’ along with the caption: “Old Skool Tunes For Today” followed by two winking-faced emojis.

The post was understandably adored by Everton fans and only angered Forest fans even more.

Jamie Carragher meanwhile compared Forest’s comments to something a fan down the pub would make.

“It tells you where we are in the Premier League when clubs are doing that,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day and they should be criticised as it could have real implications. But that, what I’ve just read there on social media. That’s like a fan in a pub.

“That is embarrassing.

“I get the frustration. That rubbish about the VAR being a Luton fan – they can’t get involved in that. You’ve got to show a little bit of class as a football club.”
