Ashley Cole has been appointed assistant coach to interim England manager Lee Carsley.
Carsley was appointed interim boss of England earlier this month after Gareth Southgate’s resignation following the Three Lion’s defeat to Spain in the final of the Euros in July.
Cole had worked as Carsley’s assistant coach with the under-21s and played his part in their European Championships win last summer.

Meanwhile, England confirmed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had left his role as coach.
Carsley’s first game in charge is scheduled for September when England face Republic of Ireland and Finland in the Nations League.
His stint at the helm of the national team may be somewhat of an audition for Carsley as his predecessor was promoted from the under-21s in 2016.
Cole, a former Arsenal and Chelsea star, accumulated 107 caps for his country during his career.
During his coaching career, he has had stints at Derby, Chelsea’s academy, Everton and, most recently, Birmingham City.
He survived the cull when Rooney was sacked and continued to work for the club under Tony Mowbray and Gary Rowett.
Birmingham issued a statement which read: “Birmingham City can confirm that First Team Coach, Ashley Cole, will take on a new role alongside his Club duties. The 43-year-old has assumed a position in support of the England Men’s National Team, having previously worked alongside current Interim Manager, Lee Carsley, with the under-21s.
“Last summer, Cole, who amassed 107 full international caps as a player, helped the Young Lions win the UEFA European Championship in the role of assistant coach.
Shortly after this achievement, he joined Blues in October 2023 and is a member of Chris Davies' First Team staff.”
