Harry Kane scored from the spot to give Spurs the lead

Arsenal fans were left fuming after Tottenham Hotspur took a first half lead through a Harry Kane penalty after Cedric Soares’ foul on Heung-min Son.

The two sides were playing out one of the most important North London derbies in years as both teams battle it out for the final Champions League spot, with tempers rising high.

Kane converted from the spot

Just over 20 minutes had gone at the point of the penalty claim, with neither side registering a meaningful shot on goal, however Spurs looked to ask questions of the Gunners’ backline.

A ball into the box from Dejan Kulusevski looked to meet the head of a Spurs attacker but as Son leapt to try to direct it towards goal, he was barged to the floor by Cedric.

Despite the protests from the away side the penalty was given, allowing Kane to step up from 12 yards and… well you know how it normally ends up when he’s taking a spot-kick. He scored.

Arsenal fans were left confused by the decision

But fans of Mikel Arteta’s side couldn’t believe that a penalty had been awarded. “What a complete fucking joke refereeing is in the league,” one fan said on Reddit.

Another said: “Ridiculously soft,” while a third said: “Ridiculous.”

Arsenal Spurs penalty

Twitter wasn’t much more sympathetic.

Meanwhile things went from bad to worse for Arsenal shortly after as defender Rob Holding was shown two yellow cards in quick succession.

The second of those follows a coming together between Holding and Son, with the defender appearing to look like he had caught the Spurs number 7 with a flailing elbow.
