Arsenal pair have missed more games through injury than Abou Diaby

Tom Victor

It was a long-running joke at Arsenal that Abou Diaby would be ‘like a new signing’ if and when he returned.

But now the line might have to be wheeled out again for a few different Arsenal players.

Diaby sat out 203 games during his time at the Emirates Stadium, but England and Arsenal duo Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott have already surpassed that total.

With Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both being withdrawn in the first 20 minutes of the League Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday, Arsenal fans have spoken up about wider injury concerns yet again.

Is it possible that Diaby wasn’t even injury-prone, but simply a victim of a deeper malaise at Arsenal?

Seeing as injuries have stopped him making his debut for new club Marseille, perhaps not.
