Arsenal make huge bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Dortmund have confirmed an offer has been made.

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed Arsenal have made a request to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. German news outlet Kicker report that a £44.1million transfer fee has been offered by the Gunners. However, it is believed that falls below his existing club's expectations, with Borussia Dortmund unwilling to let the 28-year-old go for anything less than £52.9m. Responding to the offer, Hans-Joachim Watzke said: "I can confirm that there has been a first request from Arsenal and we're not commenting on the sums that have been called from England since noon today." Arsene Wenger will be hoping that Aubameyang can fill the shoes of Alexis Sanchez, who looks almost certain to leave Arsenal in this transfer window - although with much of his game reliant on pace, it remains to be seen whether he would be a long-term prospect for the North London side. The news comes after Jose Mourinho as good as confirmed that Sanchez's move to Manchester United was a done deal yesterday. "There is no point in trying to hide or deny, but it is not done at all," he said on Friday afternoon. "I think clearly everybody knows that we are there and especially when Arsenal manager speaks so clearly like he did."
