'Imagine that... Neymar and Mbappé in central defence'

Arsene Wenger remains at Arsenal.

With the club missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in over two decades, an increasingly vocal section of their supporters made it perfectly clear during the final months of last season that they felt Wenger should be removed as manager.

The 67-year-old didn’t leave, instead signing a two-year extension to stay at The Emirates.

However, speaking to Telefoot (reported by The Times), Wenger has now admitted that he contemplated leaving the club.

“Yes, I hesitated to extend for personal reasons,” he explained.

“I’ve been at Arsenal for 20 years, and I’m wondering if I should continue to lead the club. We went quite badly during the season.”

Added to this, he also revealed that Paris Saint-Germain had also been in contact with him.

“We struggled a lot last season. Coaching a different club would be possible.

“There have been contacts with PSG.”
