Arsenal consider move for son of Dean Windass

Maybe it's just hot air

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Accrington Stanley midfielder Josh Windass, the son of former Bradford forward Dean Windass.

The Gunners sent a scout to keep tabs on the 21-year-old during Accrington’s 3-2 win over York, in which Windass found the back of the net for the ninth time this season.

It is believed that any move for the youngster would cost the north London club somewhere in the region of £1m, but Accrington manager John Coleman has ruled out a January transfer.

Speaking to Accrington’s official website, Coleman said: “We will be taking no bids in January. I know the background to the Josh story – there was an Arsenal scout at our game against York but he wasn’t watching anyone in particular.

“It’s a compliment to Josh that he is getting mentioned as he is playing well but, while he is getting the attention, it means other players who are playing well are sneaking under the radar and that suits us.

“There was talk of £1m but the fact is, if we do sell a player at any time, the money will go into the ground and not to me, so it’s immaterial to me whether we sell in January or June. But I can say no one is going out in January.”
