Arsenal are mocked for ‘forgetting’ what the offside rule is for Nottingham Forest’s opener

This is actually laughable

Simon Lloyd

Understandably, Arsenal supporters aren’t best pleased about their FA Cup exit to Nottingham Forest.

The Championship side won 4-2 against the holders, with Arsene Wenger making a number of changes to his team in preparation for the game.

Much of the talk after the game has focused on Jon Moss’ decision to award Forest a second penalty, and the fact he didn’t see any problem with the way it found its way into the Arsenal goal – despite appearing to take a touch from each of Kieran Dowell’s feet as he slipped while taking it.

But never mind all that. On Twitter, lots of people have been concentrating on the shambolic Arsenal defending for the first goal of the afternoon, from Eric Lichaj.

The American was on hand to nod home the opener on 20 minutes, which can be seen below.

Clearly, it’s bad enough that nobody appears to be marking the goal scorer, but this camera angle still doesn’t quite do justice to how laughably bad the defending was.

This image, however, does:

Despite lining up a two man wall for the Forest free-kick, Arsenal’s defensive line appears to be preparing for some form of offside decision – despite the fact the wall clearly plays Lichaj on.

Lichaj heads home from virtually under the cross bar and, amusingly, one Arsenal player *still* tries to appeal for offside. It’s as if some of Arsenal’s players have just… forgotten the actual rules.
