Arsenal and Liverpool will be encouraged by Dortmund CEO comments about Aubameyang

Arsenal’s pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has received a boost after Dortmund’s CEO revealed the club isn’t “dependent” on the Gabon striker.

Hans-Joachim Watzke added that Dortmund “Do not have as much money as the top stars in the Premier League,” so need to offer players other incentives to stay.

Arsenal have been linked with a £40m bid for the 26-year-old, who has scored 27 goals in as many games this season, while former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is thought to be keen on bringing the player to Liverpool.

“One must never make the mistake of believing a club like [Borussia Dortmund] is dependent on a player,” Watzke told Bild. “We are not dependent on any.

“When Robert Lewandowski left, we found [Aubameyang], and he has three more goals than Lewi in his account,” Watzke added.

“We are now so well positioned that we can offer alternative solutions again and again.”
