Anthony Martial was shown a straight red card to cap a terrible first-half showing against Tottenham on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes had put United a goal up after Martial earned a penalty in the opening minute, but things swiftly fell apart from United.
Spurs instantly hit back with a Tanguy Ndombele equaliser, soon followed by a goal from Son Heung-min.
After cutting through United at will, Spurs earned a corner. As the players waited for it to be taken, however, Lamela appeared to elbow Martial, who responded by lashing out with such force the Argentine was sent to deck in agony.
A red card soon followed for Martial, approved by VAR. Lamela received a yellow and was thankfully able to recover.
