Anthony Joshua and Diplo to appear as playable characters in FIFA 21

Well, I don’t think any of us expected them to say that

Fans of EA Sports’ FIFA series are always hoping, with each new iteration of the game, that the developer will breath some new life into it. Whether that be in the form of improvements to game modes like Career Mode, an introduction of new ones like The Journey, FIFA players like having something new to mess around with.

In a way, those hopes have been fulfilled, just perhaps not in a way that anyone really expected.

That’s because EA announced on Thursday that boxer Anthony Joshua and DJ Diplo are among a host of names from the “worlds of football, music, fashion, and beyond” that will be playable in the game’s Volta mode.

Volta, introduced in FIFA 20, saw a return to five-a-side football for the series, for the first time since 2012’s FIFA Street 4. The mode allows you to create your own player and take part in tournaments across a variety of locations, and recruit people to your team.

Joshua and Diplo will feature as Groundbreakers, a new feature in the mode in which you face off against famous figures each week with the chance to add their firepower to your team.

As well the aforementioned duo, a number of actual footballers both past and present will be available to add to your team as well, including Icons like Kaka and Eric Cantona, and current superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
