Another club just got dragged into the Virgil Van Dijk legal situation

Wil Jones

It was only a few days ago that it looked like Virgil Van Dijk was about to become a Liverpool player.

The Dutchman was about to leave Southampton to become the most expensive defender in the history of football. But then the Saints reported Liverpool to the football authorities for illegally approaching the player.

That then led to an ongoing saga, with Van Dijk changing his Twitter avatar to a photo of him not wearing a Southampton shirt, and tweeting out a mysterious cryptic image. Liverpool also released a statement expressing their “regret” over the situation.

Now however, it seems that Liverpool might not have been the only club to illegally approach the player – Chelsea reportedly may have also overstepped the boundary in their attempts to sign the player. The Irish Independent are now saying that Southampton could be investigation contact between Van Dijk and the West London club.

Van Dijk still has five years left on his contract, and yet clearly wants to leave the club, so this could drag on all summer. Is there any chance he could still end up and Chelsea, or even Liverpool? We’ll just have to wait and see.
