Unfortunate wardrobe malfunction brings another UFC fight to a halt

She's not the first, she probably won't be the last

An Angela Magana nipple slip brought her UFC 218 bout to a brief halt.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, Angela Magana joined Elizabeth Phillips in the elite club of fighters who have suffered a wardrobe malfunction inside the UFC’s Octagon.

Magana found herself in defensive mode very early into her women’s strawweight bout against Amanda Bobby Cooper on the featured bout of UFC 218’s early preliminary card. Cooper found success with her wrestling in the opening round, getting the takedown early and installing herself in top position against the fence.

Just as “Her Majesty” managed to work her way into full guard, referee Keith Peterson stopped the fight to allow Magana to fix a wardrobe malfunction. As she readjusted her sports bra, the crowd hollered which prompted Joe Rogan to remark,

“Isn’t that hilarious? That’s what people care about more than anything.”

Peterson restarted the fight in the same position and Cooper worked her wrestling and ground and pound until the buzzer sounded to handily take the round.

There was more of the same in the second frame with Cooper scoring another quick takedown before passing guard and punishing her opponent with strikes.

Eventually, Cooper took Magana’s back and attempted to go for the rear-naked choke with no success. After Magana escaped, Cooper remained on top and began pounding away. The referee was left with no option but to award Cooper the TKO win on the 4:32 mark of the second round.

The result sees Cooper (3-3) bounce back from that submission loss to Cynthia Calvillo and improve her record inside the UFC’s Octagon to 2-2. Meanwhile, Magana (11-9) looks destined to get cut from the promotion. She has yet to register a win inside the Octagon and is currently riding a five-fight losing streak.
