The toppest of bins

André Schürrle opened the scoring for Fulham against Burnley after just two minutes this afternoon, with a goal that can only be described as fucking outrageous.

As Joe Bryan collected the ball at left-wing back, it made its way across the defence to Denis Odoi, via Tim Ream and Maxime Le Marchand. Odoi then floated a hopeful long ball in behind, leaving Schürrle with a lot of work to do if he was going to make anything of it.

What followed, it’s safe to say, was unexpected.

Having run in behind, through the channel between Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor on the right, Schürrle plucked the ball out of the air, cushioning it down perfectly with a deft touch.

The German international then allowed the ball to drop and bounce before adjusting his body shape and unleashing a powerful shot. The ball arrowed in off the bar. Some might say it went top bins.

Absolutely stunning. He just needs to do that every single week and Fulham might stay up.

The Cottagers did then go on to concede two goals before half-time, both of them own goals. Still, though, great goal.
